| Hi, Scarikas here. I'm making a WOLF tutorial to teach those clueless about WOLF! Do you 'think' you know the game? Well, Read this! This teaches you about things that 'make sense' in the game or at least to me! Basics (Read first!): | Spoiler: | | | Basicaly, In WOLF you are a wolf surviving in the wild. You'll need to eat, drink, and avoid Hunters while also protecting your pack. This tutorial will show you how to hunt bigger animals and animals that are faster then you are, so say goodbye to your beaver-only diet. |
Choose settings Tutorial/tips:
| Spoiler: | | | Choosing settings can effect the entire gameplay depending on what you choose. If you've never had pups before and havn't lived for at least a year, Choose the most easiest setting. Witch is Lots of prey, Winter, Small world, Little hunters, Little people, Nice weather, and infinity time. The Best-aged wolves that I know of are Rumour, Longtooth, Longtail (I think), and Muzzelad. If your a female, Choose the strongest wolf, witch is Rumour, and make the beta male either Muzzlelad or Longtooth, then make the alpha male either of those. Your mate has a high chance of dying and protecting your mate/pack and avoiding hunters along with making your pack avoid them is in the Pack selection. |
Hunting Tutorial:
| Spoiler: | | | As said in basics, Say goodbye to your beaver diet. The easiest prey is to get Beavers. And the fastest and usually hardest prey is Rabbits. Before hunting bison, You'll probrably have to be playing the game for 1-3 years. please note that days in years/months are days in-game, Don't think you'll actually have to wait 365 real-days to have a year in-game go by. Most usually, your prey will get away besides beavers. Don't worry, if you have full energy you'll be fine. Keep the scent trail tracked down of that mammal and keep chasing it until it gets tired. This works for rabbits but because of thier big use of speed but small use of energy it is hard to tire them out before you get tired out yourself. After you run after a mammal for a while, It'le break into a slow walk and you can easily get close to it without it running off due to it's loss of energy, and then it'le all be based on your strength. Rumour, My usually wolf, can kill all but Bison and Musk-ox. 3 Musk-ox where in her history by default when I became her, but I was never able to hunt them.
IMPORTANT! Read!: Do not EVER hunt unless you really really need it. Overhunting instead of finding carcasses will shorten the spawning of prey, which is needed for emergencies, such as shortage of carcsses in winter. If you overhunt, eventually prey will spawn further and further from your territory until it takes you half the day to get them. Don't overhunt for the sake of yourself, your pack, and your pups. |
Mating Tutorial:
| Spoiler: | | | People can find mating quite difficult, but it honestly isn't hard. You can only mate with the other alpha when you are alpha, No other rank can mate with any other rank but alphas. If 'YOU' ask the alpha male/female to mate, it'le never work. Right when your month hits 9, you're mate will sprint straight at you from our of your screen view and you will automatically mate, even if you never in your life requested it. Your age must be 'insert year here' and 9 months to mate. It can be any year, just make sure your age says 9 months and your mate should run towards you the second your age says that. If you are, say, 8 months, you'll have to wait 30 in-game days before your mate will run towards you. The exact day of witch you turn _ years and 9 months old your mate will come to you. Then you'll have to wait exactly a year before your mate will run at you again. If your 1 year and 9 months, you'll have to wait until 2 years and 9 months before mating again. Just making it very clear that you have to be _ years and 9 months when you mate, else you won't mate at all.
Pregnancy takes 3 months. Note:s 9 months is in fact for every biome. |
Pack Tutorial:
| Spoiler: | | | Protecting your pack and territory can be difficult, this tutorial will tell you how to manage a territory. You can have 8 members in max, but I usually only have 4, so then there's room for my pups. What's most important to me is keeping the alpha male from leading the pack towards a hunter. To do this, Stand in front of the alpha and corner them into a different direction. After you get in front of it it'le walk a diff direction, heel at the side that's in the direction of the hunter so that there's no room for the alpha male to turn that way, and if it's too late and you get close enough for the music to start, simply bark and your pack will run in the opposite direction. Keep barking at them until they don't run anymore and you should be safe. Also, To avoid being attacked by a enemy pack if you chose more then 1 pack, You and your packmates stay in at max 15 kilometers (what I call scentspaces) away from your pack den. You can usually find your pack in this area. believe it or not, 15 kilometers from your pack den usually has more water/prey sources then all the other areas. If it's too late and a hunter is close, get in between the hunter and your packmate. When the hunter shoots and you start rolling, bark and you'll get back up with only 1-shot damage. Do this while you and your packmates flee and you should be fine. One more thing! If a Lone Wolf comes into your territory, do not only scent mark but chase them away! Wether they're a female or not you can challenge them to chase them away but cannot kill them unless they choose to fight back, but be careful! You can also get wounded in the fight. |
Tips:
| Spoiler: | | | 1. Scent mark when you find loners in 15 kilometers of your pack den. 2. Your pack members ALWAYS, ALLWWAYSS stay in 15 kilometers of your pack den. unless you're the alpha male and you lead them away from it. 3. If you scent a carcass but it does not appear when you check the map with M, then it is just a skeleton. 4. Use alt+F12 to speed up the game. Sleep all the time except when your hungry/thirsty to pass time. 5. More info will be added as I get more experienced in WOLF myself ;3 |

 | Subject: How do you pick other alpha and beta? 28/05/11, 09:06 pm | |
| Hi, I was wondering how you can pick the other alpha and beta. The game seems to automatically pick random wolves for them, but I can't figure out how to change them or pick out my own. |

Actually, it's not random. Certain wolves are just "better" than others. If you play Cepheus, you will automatically become the omega. Rumour and Centaurus are ALWAYS the alphas, but Nakomis and Shadow will try and steal Rumour's rank.
(They're the next-best females. An interesting note should be made: I made a pack with Shadow and Nakomis in it. Nakomis was the beta, Shadow was the subordinate. After barely five minutes of playing, Shadow beat Nakomis in a fight and became the beta.)
Those wolves above aren't the only ones' this applies to. It applies to ALL of the wolves in the game. |

So I don't think seasons have anything to do with mating. You just need to be _ year(s) and 9 months old. |

| Well.. Obviously if it can be any year but has too be a certain month, that obviously means the season in that month will always be the season you mate in. |
